Other VP contenders at the weekend meeting included Stefanik, Scott and North Dakota Gov. This may help to explain why some influential Trump donors are especially wary of Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Rubio, Stefanik, Scott and Burgum have all privately been pitched to Trump as top prospects with close ties to top business leaders. Those ties could bolster Trump's fundraising operation if one of them is chosen as his running mate, according to people familiar with the matter. Burgum could even help to self-fund Trump's campaign, just as he did for his own Republican primary run for president.

HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard on Friday asked mariners for help in finding a 60-year-old man sailing from California to Hawaii. Noel Rubio left Long Beach on Dec. 28 on the 32-foot (9.7-meter) sailboat Malulani, the Coast Guard said in a news release. The agency has been unable to find him despite searching harbors in California, Hawaii and Mexico and sending urgent marine information broadcasts. Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida and ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, during a hearing in Washington, D.C., on March 8, 2023. WASHINGTON — Social media giant TikTok should be demonetized in the U.S. unless the Chinese government hands over its algorithm, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said Wednesday. "It is time to ban Beijing-controlled TikTok for good," Rubio said in a December 2022 statement on his bill. More than 150 million Americans use TikTok and nearly five million businesses advertise on the platform, according to the company. "What companies in the world is that algorithm going to be beneficial to in the long term?"

FREETOWN, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Twenty people were killed and nearly 2,000 inmates escaped during Sunday's attack on a military barracks, a prison and other locations in Sierra Leone, officials said on Monday. The West African country was thrown into panic in the early hours when the assailants sent gunfire ringing across the capital Freetown. Some 1,890 inmates escaped from the Pademba Road central prison after the attackers broke in, according to a situation report that prison officials shared with Reuters on Monday. Signage is seen outside of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) headquarters in White Oak, Maryland, U.S., August 29, 2020. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet confirmed when the advisory panel would meet, they added. Shares of Bristol Myers Squibb fell more than 2% and those of 2seventy bio slid nearly 20% in early morning trade. The therapy was originally co-developed by bluebird bio (BLUE.O) but following its spin-off in 2021 became part of 2seventy's portfolio. Bristol Myers and 2seventy bio, however, have faced manufacturing constraints, and a month-long planned maintenance shutdown of one of Abecma's manufacturing facility in June had also negatively impacted sales.

A Danish biotechnology startup making sustainable dyes for the fashion industry just raised 3.4 million euros ($4.6 million). Octarine Bio started out focusing on cannabinoid and psilocybin-derived therapeutics but has since pivoted to natural dyes. On top of that, natural dyes don't always work well with synthetic fabrics such as polyester and nylon. "This is a huge value inflection point" as Octarine Bio's colors are scalable thanks to fermentation and work well on synthetic fabrics, Gallage said. In Adam Kinzinger's new book, he recounts some key moments from the 2016 GOP presidential primaries. Kinzinger backed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio after former Florida Gov. He said he should've been "worried" at how easy it was to text with Rubio about the endorsement. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs the 2016 Republican presidential field took shape, then-Rep. Adam Kinzinger made the decision early-on to get behind former two-term Florida Gov. Trump's campaign continued to gain steam, and by the time the GOP primary reached Florida, Rubio had not been to blunt the New York businessman's momentum.

AdvertisementAdvertisementThere is no special carve-out in international law that allows the victims of war crimes to commit war crimes in return. War crimes are seldom punished if they are endorsed by a superpower. Even during the bloody post-9/11 period, Western governments refrained from announcing that they intended to commit war crimes. When it came to terrorists, he said during his first campaign, "you have to take out their families," an explicit endorsement of war crimes. But it took Vladimir Putin's 2022 invasion of Ukraine to fully put Trump's stated doctrine into practice — a modern military, in uniform, openly committing war crimes at scale.

WASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - About half of Americans support sending U.S. military personnel into Mexico to fight drug cartels, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll, though there is less backing for sending troops without Mexico's approval. Some of the candidates have said they would be prepared to send military forces without first receiving permission from the Mexican government. Fifty-one percent of Republicans opposed unilateral action, compared to 40% who supported it. Only former Vice President Mike Pence, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have stopped short of saying they support sending U.S. military personnel into Mexico. The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online and nationwide between Sept. 8 and Sept. 14, gathering responses from 4,413 U.S. adults.

July 17 (Reuters) - BridgeBio Pharma Inc's (BBIO.O) experimental drug for a rare heart disease showed significant improvement in patients in a late-stage study, sending its shares surging 65% on Monday. The California-based company also provided additional data comparing it with Pfizer's drug. Acoramidis showed 92% improvement on heart failure test, compared to patients on placebo and Pfizer's drug at 30 months. The startup Loam Bio wants to use fungi to boost soil health and help keep carbon in the ground. But soil carbon is in a sorry state, in part due to current agricultural practices. There are different types of soil carbon; some decompose easily while others can take thousands of years to break down. Samura Kamara, head of the All People's Congress (APC) party, said he wanted the chief electoral commissioner and all regional commissioners of the national election body to be replaced by "an independent internationally accredited team". "The Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) is gravely concerned about the deliberate attempts by the All People's Congress to disrupt the peaceful elections and reverse the democratic gains Sierra Leone has made," it said in a statement on Thursday. Sierra Leone's chief electoral commissioner Mohamed Kenewui Konneh also rejected Kamara's accusations and said none of his team would resign. Kamara said that if the officials did not resign within 72 hours, the APC party would meet and "decide the next steps". On Tuesday, dozens of young people were arrested following opposition protests in several cities calling for the electoral commissioner to resign, local media reported.

June 6 (Reuters) - Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is expected to formally announce his 2024 presidential campaign on Tuesday in New Hampshire, joining a growing Republican field led by Donald Trump. A former federal prosecutor, Christie, 60, has argued he is the only potential rival with the skills and willingness to attack Trump directly. He netted just 1% support from potential Republican primary voters in a Reuters/Ipsos poll in May, compared to Trump's 49% support and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' 19% support. That strategy may entice Republican voters who are ready to move past Trump, but it remains unclear whether any Republican can prevail without the support of Trump's still-loyal base. Despite his early support for Trump, Christie was passed over for vice president and for attorney general, and was fired as the head of Trump's transition team just three days after the 2016 election.
